Albert Yeung Sau Shing Charity Foundation has funded a total of HKD 300,000 to the Lutheran Church Hong Kong Synod this year, in a bid to set up toy libraries for the elderly. Our serving targets are patients suffering from mild to moderate dementia. A series of brain training games could help improve patients’ memory and concentration.
Dementia is getting more attention in recent years, and Happiness, an Emperor Motion Pictures film, has also explored the relevant issue. In view of this, the Foundation organized an "Dementia Day and Elderly Visit" campaign on 1 October, enabling Emperor Group staff to learn more about the disease and visit the elderly at the same time.
Emperor Group staff arrived at Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Wong (Second) Home For The Elderly in Tsueng Kwan O in the morning. The day first began by social workers introducing the background of dementia, explaning how toy libraries for the elderly could alleviate the symptoms of cognitive disorders and the communication skills with patients. The volunteers and elderly played the new toys together after lunch.
Artist of Emperor Motion Pictures as well as the leading actor of Happiness, Carlos Chan, also participated in the campaign. In addition to performing guitar live at the elderly home, he also played games with the elderly. Afterwards, the superintendent guided Carols Chan and staff volunteers of the Group to visit the dormitory of the elderly home in order to further understand their daily life.
