More than 50 staff members went all the way to Haerbin, Heilungjiang Province and celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival with the elderlies in the northernmost major city of China on a volunteer tour.
They were on a mission to bring festive greetings to the empty-nested elderlies in Fushun, an old neighbourhood with an aging population where young adults tend to move out, leaving old, and maybe even sick, parents behind. They first greeted and met with the elderlies in a fun-packed get-together in a cool autumn morning, when the two parties did some simple workouts and games, followed by a handicraft workshop in the afternoon.
The volunteers made home visits the next day, when they had real talk with the elderlies. Though having gone through different paths in life, people in golden years probably all have one thing in common: wishing to complete their life journeys in the company of their loved ones. Friendship and concern shown by volunteers in this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival just made the otherwise less full moon whole again for them.
