Emperor Group Centre in Beijing Awarded Green Electricity Certificate

Green Action

Recently, Emperor Group’s headquarters in Beijing, Emperor Group Centre, took the lead by purchasing green power through the National Energy Administration’s Power Exchange Center. This initiative resulted in the award of the Green Electricity Certificate (GEC), achieving 100% coverage with green power in the building. It marks a significant milestone in the Group’s real estate business, supporting the nation’s peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality goals.

Green power is generated from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, nuclear, hydro, and biomass. The production process results in zero or near-zero carbon dioxide emissions, making it more environmentally friendly compared to electricity generated from fossil fuels.

The Green Electricity Certificate acts as an “electronic identification card” for renewable energy electricity. It is a single certificate issued for electricity generated by renewable energy projects, featuring a unique identification code. This certificate is the sole proof of the environmental attributes of renewable energy and the only credential for recognising the production and consumption of renewable energy.

In recent years, the Chinese national government and various provinces have introduced a series of energy-saving and carbon-reduction policies to promote the use of green energy. The ongoing refinement of the green certificate system is set to play a crucial role in fostering the development and utilization of renewable energy, facilitating the transformation and upgrade of the energy structure, and guiding widespread green consumption.

Emperor Group has been progressively achieving its carbon reduction targets through the consumption of green power. In the carbon market, green power can effectively offset indirect carbon emissions. Moreover, the purchase and use of green power have further reinforced Emperor Group’s commitment to sustainable development, accelerating its transition towards a clean, low-carbon future.
