Emperor Group attaches great importance to the well-being of the elderly and the development of young people. The Group supported The Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council and Hong Kong Lurthern Social Service with financial aids through Emperor Foundation for developing different serivce programme. Under the “Senior-Junior Development Programme” by The Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council (NAAC), a new sports “Pickle Ball” training class has begun and coaching by BestKall Pickle Ball Association for facilitating the interaction between yound and sliver-aged generation, as well as to provide seniors more opportunities for lifelong learning and to bosst self-esteem.
The elderly have been trained for three to four month and have learnt the basic playing technique. As the training class headed to the final lesson, Emperor Foundation hosted “Good Shot Pickle Ball Sports Day” with NAAC and gathered volunteers from group business units including Emperor International, Emperor Capital, The Empeor Hotel, Emperor Motion Pictures, Emperor Cinemas and New Media Group to have a friendly match with elderly from Shamshuipo District Elderly Community Centre and Lei Tung Neighbourhood Elderly Centre. Suey Kwok and Dark Wong, the artistes from Emperor Entertainment Group also joined the meaningful event.
The rapid developing new sports Pickle Ball was found in US. It combined the features of Badminton, Ping Pong and Tennis which become more easy and accessibe to players of all ages. It is a rather mild sports providing certain activity which help relieve joint degeneration, improving blood pressue and cardiopulmonary health, enhancing muscle coordination, also to faciliating their social life.
In the event, the volunteers received ten minutes of training from the coach before the warm-up practice with the elderly. Balls rolled all over the field, everyone was seizing the time to get used to the game. It divided into two parts: Preliminary and Finale. There were 20 teams and each named by the elderly themselves. Dark was paired up with the elderest granny Chen who aged 87 as “Team Jumpy Silver Age” in the event, whereas Suey was paired up with grany Liu aged 75 as “Team Happy and Healthy”.
Suey felt excited to be part of the sports day, she said, “The event is really surprised me, the elderly are so energitic, they even beated the young people! Being a senior to us, the elderly should not be sterotyped always looking for someone’s care. They are capable of sharing what they learnt to us just like they guided us in today’s game. We still have many things to learn from them.”. Dark reckon that there're enormous potential for promoting the new sports, he said, “Not every person can participate in traditional sports, if people can modify the game rules like Pickle Ball to cater players of all ages, I believe it will be a multi-win situation sitmulating more interaction between older and younger generations.”.
The competition was close and the finalists were almost on a par. We had five winners who were awarded a certificate of appreciation with a gold red pocket gift from Emperor Jewellery to the elderly in each team. A goodie bag also given to every participated elderly.
