(June 17, 2020, Beijing) Dr. Albert Yeung, Chairman of Emperor Group was honoured the award “Philanthropist of the Year” on the event “China Charity Chart 2020” held in Beijing, in recognition of his exceptional contributions in poverty alleviation, elderly care and other fields such as endowment for pandemic prevention. And not limited to his efforts in encouraging more people to dedicate themselves to give back to the society, in leading the group to the way of having deeper charity engagement.
Due to the impact of the pandemic, Dr. Yeung was not able to receive the award in person, instead, he shared his speech to the audience through a live interview. “This year is challenging, we have done our best to give back to the Group’s employees and the society in the face of the pandemic. While actively resuming the operation, we have tried our best to guarantee the safety of employees” he said. At the same time, Dr. Yeung also expressed his expectation "On my philanthropic path, I will be joined by staff and artists from all parts of the Emperor Group to actively carry out works in elderly care locally in Hong Kong and mainland. I hope there will be more volunteers to join us and the cause of elderly care and poverty alleviation.” The Chart is organised by the China Philanthropy Times, which is operated by the Ministry of Civil Affairs and hosted by the China Association of Social Workers. Since 2004, the chart has been compiled and published every year, it focuses on philanthropists’ influences in pushing forward the philanthropy roadmap to find the role models and promote the modern public spirit. There is no lack of business leaders among past winners. This year, the award “Philanthropist of the Year” was only granted to three entrepreneurs who have made outstanding charitable contributions. In response to the pandemic prevention and control work, this year's event combined forms of live broadcasting and offline ceremony, audiences can view from nearly 20 online media platforms at the same time.
In face of the COVID-19 outbreak, Emperor Group has responded to the emergency prevention works held in Hubei Province and Hong Kong early on January 30 this year through Emperor Foundation with a total donation of medical protective supplies and cash that equivalent to 10 million RMB to Hubei Charity Federation and Social Workers Across Borders, which included 120 units of non-invasive ventilators and one million sets of protective equipment to more than 10 hospitals lacking adequate equipment and supplies in the 9 cities in Hubei Province. To protect the health and safety of staff, Dr. Yeung provided staff in Hong Kong, Macao and mainland several rounds of “anti-pandemic packs”, conveying the shared responsibility and belief between the Group and its members in fighting the health crisis. During the pandemic, ten elderly and one child care centres initiated by Dr. Yeung in mainland and Hong Kong strictly implemented quarantine and other management measures such as regular disinfection, individual dining, and daily temperature monitoring which all of those has successfully helped in maintaining the record of zero infection.
In the early 1970s, Dr. Yeung began his journey in the philanthropy sphere and respectively founded Emperor Foundation and Albert Yeung Sau Shing Charity Foundation in 1997 and 2008. Over the years, his good deeds have been widely recognised. Since 2005, he has been awarded the "China Charity Award – The Most Caring Individual Donor Award", the most authentic charity award presented by the Chinese Government, as well as "Top Ten Philanthropists", both of which he has been bestowed upon repeatedly since 2005. In 2017 and the following years, Dr. Yeung has been honoured with awards “Lifetime Achievement Award”, “Leading Philanthropist of the Year” and “Most Influential Leading Philanthropist” at China’s Charity Chart organised by China Philanthropy Times.
