(Hong Kong, April 23rd, 2012) Emperor Group kicked off its 70th anniversary celebrations during a gala event held yesterday (April 22nd) at Island Golf Club in Tseung Kwan O, when Dr. Albert Yeung, chairman of the Group, officially announced the start of a series of events and charitable activities, accompanied by over 1,000 staff members and artists from Emperor Group’s eight business units.
Emperor Group is celebrating its 70th anniversary with the slogan “Emperor Group - Defining 70 Years of Thriving Success with Faith and Talents” this year. To start the event with a bang, Dr. Yeung, his wife Ms. Semon Luk, managing directors Mr. Bryan Wong and Ms. Vanessa Fan, together with tens of management staff members and EEG artists, made their entrance in an exciting parade of convertible sedans. They also officiated at a symbolic ceremony to set off a series of celebrations and charitable activities. A host of upcoming young stars then performed a chorus of Below the Lion Rock, a song that depicts the fighting spirit of Hong Kong and the Group. Over 1,000 Emperor employees dressed in different colour T-shirts formed up to create a huge number 70. It was a marvelous display of the solidarity and team spirit of the entire organisation.
Dr. Yeung said to his assembled colleagues, “Over the last 70 years, we have developed by always remaining true to our values. We have brought together an immensely talented team. And we have made this company grow and mature. I have absolute confidence that the key to our success is the people in our companies. I hope that we will continue to pull together, to achieve even greater success, and to make the coming years even better than ever!”
Emperor Group started as Shing On Kee Watch Shop, opened in 1942 by Dr. Yeung’s father, Mr. Yeung Shing. 70 years of careful stewardship has turned that small shop on Shanghai Street into a diversified group of over 7,000 employees and 5 listed companies that spread over eight key business areas: financial services, property, watches and jewellery, entertainment and films, hospitality, publishing and printing, furniture, food and restaurants. It truly is one of the classic success stories of Hong Kong people “below the Lion Rock”.
Emperor Group has been giving back to the community because it understands its success comes from the community. At yesterday’s event, the Group announced that this year it would be donating ten million HKD to a range of different charitable causes. These causes will include healthcare, disaster relief, elderly care and poverty relief in Hong Kong, mainland China and elsewhere in the world. Four donations have already been announced for ORBIS Hong Kong, Social Workers Across Borders, Caring Hearts Photographic Society and St. James’ Settlement.
There will also be a series of special sales offers opened to the general public to mark the Group’s anniversary. 500,000 coupon booklets, with a combined value of over one billion HKD, will be handed out from the Group’s various retail outlets, so that all residents of Hong Kong have a chance to join in the celebrations.
