(August 10, 2010, Hong Kong) Dr. Albert Yeung, Emperor Group Chairman and Life Honorary President of Social Workers Across Borders, donated HKD 1 million to set off the NGO’s relief team to mudslide hit area of Zhouqu County, Gansu Province.
The disaster was led by a heavy rainstorm last Saturday, destroying homes and claiming lives. Dr. Yeung made the donation via his eponymus “Albert Yeung Sau Shing Charity Foundation”, which would be used to buy emergency supplies, brought to victims by a team of 5 volunteers mobilized by Social Workers Across Borders, who are arriving in affected areas on or before this Friday (August 13). The first batch of supplies will reach victims as soon as August 20.
Dr. Yeung today presented the cheque to Mr. Terrence Chan, President of Social Workers Across Borders, witnessed by Mr. Huang Qingfong, Deputy Head of the Social Work Unit at the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government. Dr. Yeung expressed his grief and said, “I on my own can’t do much but I wish I can arouse more concerns and solicit more help for the victims.” Apart from supplies, Social Workers Across Borders would also provide psychological consultation.
