Emperor Motion Pictures was established in 2000 with a focus on the production, sales and distribution of quality motion pictures. We have since grown into a leading player in the production and distribution arena with one of the most attractive film slates in the Greater China region.
EMP’s films have earned countless accolades. In 2009, “The Beast Stalker” earned an incredible seven Best Actor awards. In 2010, “Let the Bullets Fly” was a surprise box office hit in mainland China, becoming the first film at the time to break the RMB700 million mark at the box office.
In 2018, “Operation Red Sea” box office exceeded RMB 3.6 billion in Mainland China. It also won multiple awards at numerous film awards and festivals, including Best Action Choreography, Best Sound Design and Best Visual Effects at the Hong Kong Film Awards. In the same year, “Project Gutenberg” - directed by Felix Chong, and starring Chow Yun Fat and Aaron Kwok - won Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Art Direction and Best Costume & Makeup Design for a total of seven Hong Kong Film Awards. “A Cool Fish” by director Rao Xiaozhi earned both critical and commercial success, becoming the top-grossing mainland China comedy in 2018.
In 2021, “Raging Fire” - directed by Benny Chan, and starring Donnie Yen and Nicholas Tse - earned RMB 1.33 billion during the hugely competitive summer period, becoming the top-grossing Hong Kong film in mainland China. Among the top ten grossing 2021 films in mainland China, EMP’s films took up four slots: “The Battle at Lake Changjin,” the epic blockbuster that is smashing box office records with over RMB5 billion at the box office, “My Country, My Parents,” “Raging Fire” and “Cliff Walkers.”
In 2023, Emperor Motion Pictures acts as co-producer and exclusive overseas distributor for “The Wandering Earth 2” in Hong Kong, Macau, and Southeast Asia region, telling China's story well on global stage by leveraging Hong Kong's advantage of international platform. The movie has earned more than RMB 4 billion in cumulative box office sales, jumping into the top 10 of the China box office record and becoming another milestone for Chinese science fiction movies.
Subsequently, Emperor Motion Pictures served as the co-producer and exclusive distributor of "The Great War" in Hong Kong and Macau, and for the first time, the film was released simultaneously in the mainland and Hong Kong.
